Velia Soto

Vice President

Velia Soto has served on the Board of Autism Society Ventura County since 2023. Velia brings over two decades of experience in special education, disability advocacy, and public service to her role as Vice President. She has extensive experience supporting students with disabilities and their families, managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaborating with community organizations and advocating for accessible educational and career opportunities.

Velia’s leadership experience includes service on the California Department of Education’s Alternative Assessment Review Panel, the Special Education Division’s Advisory Committee providing recommendations to California’s Office of Administrative Hearings and a City of Oxnard Cultural Arts Commissioner . She has also served for many years as a induction mentor to newly credentialed special education teachers.

Velia holds a Juris Doctor, a Master of Arts in Special Education, and California teaching credentials in special education and career technical education (CTE). At ASVC Velia is committed to strengthening advocacy, inclusion, and civic engagement opportunities for Autistic individuals and their families. In her free time she enjoys spending time in nature with her family.
